7. Lembeh Straits
Lembeh Island lies directly opposite the port city of Bitung, which is the 2nd largest city in Northern Sulawesi after Manado. Between Bitung and Lembeh Island you find the Lembeh Strait, internationally famous for its amazing muck diving conditions.
Diving at Lembeh Strait means you are on the lookout for numerous weird
but amazing looking species such as the Lion Fish, Giant Frog Fish,
Hairy Frog Fish, Mimic Octopus, Blue Ringged Octopus, Banded Sea Snake,
Banded Eel, Mandarin Fish, Orangutan Crabs, Manta Shrimps and many, many
other species. For obvious reasons is Lembeh a real paradise for those
that are into underwater macro photography.
How to get there :
- Flight from Jakarta to Manado plane ticket cost about 100 dollars one way in low
season. The flight is about 6 hours. Manado City with Sam
Ratulangi airport is connected with several other cities in Indonesia,
such as Jakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Balikpapan and Makassar. Besides
Sam Ratulangi airport also serves direct flights from abroad like
Singapore, Manila, Kuala Lumpur, and Davao, Philippines.
- To
reach Lembeh Straits from Manado you can rent a cab to Bitung, distance from Manado to Bitung is approximately 44.9 km, travel time is about 1 hour.
