Top 10 Most Beautiful Diving Spot in Indonesia 6 - Banda

6. Banda

The Banda Islands are a volcanic group of ten small volcanic islands in the Banda Sea, about 140 km (87 miles) south of Seram Island and are part of the Indonesian province of Maluku. The main town and administrative centre is Bandanaira, located on the island of the same name. Until the mid-19th century the Banda Islands were the world's only source of the spices nutmeg and mace, produced from the nutmeg tree. The islands are also popular destinations for scuba diving and snorkeling.

The 5 tiny atolls of Lucipara in the middle of the Banda Sea are the tops of undersea mountains rising up over a mile from the ocean floor. The uninhabited beaches are ideal green turtle nesting sites, while the reef's breathtaking drop off to ocean waters is ideal for diving and snorkeling. Due to its remote location and the surrounding deep sea, the waters around Banda are extremely clear. Visibilities of 30 m are common and on some days you can experience 50 m. The condition and health of the coral reefs is breath-taking. Most of the sites are wall dives characterized by huge sea fans, barrel sponges and orange soft corals.

How to get there :
You can use the flight from Jakarta  to Ambon which takes about three and a half hours. Ticket price about 110 dollars during low season.
- On arrival in Ambon then the journey must be continued with plane or ferry. Flight operates twice a week from Ambon to Bandaneira. The schedule is Wednesday and Friday and the duration is approximately 1 hour.
Alternatively you can cross the Banda Sea by ferry. Pelni provide twice-weekly ferry boat Ciremai KM from Ambon to Banda Neira. Make sure you double check the schedule for unexpected changes.
