5. Zentralfriedhof Cemetery - Vienna
The Zentralfriedhof is one of the largest cemeteries in the world, largest by number of interred in European countries and most popular cemetery among Vienna's nearly 50 cemeteries.
The official opening of the Central Cemetery was held on All Saints' Day, on 1 November 1874. The very first burial was that of Jacob Zelzer and 15 other dead people followed the same day. The grave of Jacob Zelzer still exists at present and is placed close to the administration building at the cemetery wall.
Absolutely no cemetery across the world features more graves of great classical composers and other famous musicians than The Zentralfriedhof Cemetery in Vienna. To point out but a few: Antonio Salieri, Johann Strauss the older, Johannes Brahms, Johann Strauss the younger, Franz Schubert, Ludwig van Beethoven, Arnold Schoenberg, writers such as Karl Kraus, politicians like Julius Raab, Bruno Kreisky (the Sun King), Viktor Adler, Otto Bauer, all of them, and many more, have been laid to rest in graves of honour at the Zentralfriedhof cemetery.
There are several stories that mention that tourists often heard the sound of classical music from the tomb of Beethoven, there are also another story about an interesting room was discovered in one of the pavillions.
It was filled to the brim with fresh brains of children preserved in formaldehyde jars.
